The people he grew up with on the docks were the first family that he really had but they never had a 'home'... and he wouldn't exactly say his room in the Arcanists Guild was home either.

I'm from Limsa Lominsa originally. Uhm. Grew up there, anyway.
[ She doesn't understand it the way that E'kayan or even her husband, X'chai, would. She knows that while her relationship with her family is strained at best, she was never so unlucky as to not grow up with her family around.
So she feels for him.
Ishgard was not always such a kind place, but there are people there that make it infinitely kinder. ]

[Comfort, a place to belong... Ishgard had been the first place he'd felt like more of a person than a weapon to be wielded and he can never really thank Aymeric and everyone there enough for giving him that small spot of peace to ground himself in, in the middle of everything else he was going through when he first arrived there.
It's not something he thinks about too much. That period of his life is mostly a blur.]
And I guess I feel kinda responsible for the place, in a weird way... [He shakes his head.] Though the Lord Commander hardly needs my help. He's handling everything fine, which is great, because I've no head for politics.
You are a good person, you know that? Not just because you are the warrior of light. I think you are a good person in general. The way you speak of Ishgard, and those around you is heartwarming.
[When it comes to personal compliments like that, E'kayan always finds himself flustering. He rubs the back of his neck and awkwardly grins, his ears flicking in barely disguised pleasure at the spoken approval.]

[And only, really, because she insisted even if he really didn't understand why.]
[ Because to a fault, Joie is kind. She did feel bad about the misfire. She was also curious to meet this mystery Warrior of Light as well. Even if she believes most of them are good in nature.
She notices his fluster, just chuckling behind her hand. ]
I would ask, at least, that you are not a stranger once we part. I have quite enjoyed meeting you.
[He smiles up at her, warm and genuine, his tail swishing from side to side as he does. It has, as a general rule, always been easy for him to make friends but there's somethihng about making this kind of instant connection with someone that always warms him.]
Likewise! I mean, not just for the bread either.
[His ears wiggle slightly.]
And we've met now, so we can't be strangers, right?
